1. About Us
The Department of Ecology of SYSU has a profound history. It all started with the department of biology when SYSU was founded in 1924. In recent years, we have focused on the research on sustainable development and the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, serving the major academic frontiers, national strategic needs as well as national and regional social-economic development. Besides, the Department of Ecology of SYSU has obtained the following achievements: ranked first in the discipline quadrennial evaluation among universities in China in 2012 and 2017; top ranked national undergraduate programs; Top School and Top Discipline accredited by the Ministry of Education; The pilot project of comprehensive disciplinary reform of the Ministry of Education; National talent training base for basic science research and teaching (biology).
Established in 2018 and located in the Shenzhen Campus at the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the School of Ecology, the first of its kind in China, represents an innovative initiative for SYSU to develop ecological disciplines (courses will be delivered at the East Campus of SYSU in Guangzhou at the beginning). The School embraces the national initiative for green development and ecological civilization. Given our strong foundation in key ecology sub-disciplines, we stay committed to building a set of core research directions with distinguished and leading scientists in the fields of mechanisms of biodiversity formation and evolution, maintenance and conservation of biodiversity, restoration and enhancement of ecosystem functions and services as well as utilization of ecological resources and sustainable development.
The school has the following Secondary disciplines:
Plant Ecology, Animal Ecology, Microbial Ecology, Ecosystem Ecology, Landscape Ecology, Restoration Ecology and Ecological sustainability.
Applicants with the following background are welcomed:
Mechanisms of biodiversity formation and evolution; Maintenance and protection of biodiversity; Restoration and enhancement of ecosystem functions and services; Utilization of ecological resources and sustainable development.
Have comparatively great academic potentials and achieved comparatively great research results by publishing no less than two outstanding academic works in principle; for those who have made particularly significant achievements, the number of their works could be reduced to one; be an outstanding doctoral student or postdoctor from a well-known domestic or international higher education institute or research institute.
