The Department of Psychological Sciences at Birkbeck, University of London is seeking to appointment 4 or more Lecturers (UK equivalent to assistant professor) to further enhance our world-class research profile and contribute to our highly successful teaching programmes. You will join internationally recognised research groups in developmental cognitive and educational neuroscience (including human genetics), cognitive computational modelling, perception, attention and action, and interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), and we aim to recruit in all these areas. The posts available are a mixture of open-ended and fixed-term contracts, at least one of which will be at senior lecturer level (UK equivalent to associate professor), the rest at lecturer level. The senior lecturer post would be expected to initially take over the role of director of undergraduate studies.

This is a unique opportunity to join one of the best research departments in the world, located in the heart of London at its historical Bloomsbury site. The department is extraordinarily well equipped for research, having just opened the brand new £8.5M state-of-the-art Wohl-Wolfson Toddler lab to complement our existing Babylab, and having recently acquired (joint with UCL) a 3T Siemens Prisma MR scanner. We also have many other dedicated labs for human electroencephalography, genetics, experimental behavioural and IPA research. The department is also a pioneer in online behavioural research across the lifespan and provides expert IT support and subscriptions for multiple online experimental platforms.

You will have shown potential for acquiring substantial grant funding, with a research program that advances scientific theory and methodology and that also has the potential for societal impact.

You will also have demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching at the undergraduate, Masters, and PhD level, perhaps including experience in lecturing and research supervision. For the senior lecturer post you will have demonstrated ability in academic administration.

You will also have demonstrated that you work productively within a collaborative environment, and that you can foster a collegial atmosphere for scientific, administrative, and support staff.


The Lecturer posts will be Grade 8 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £45,316 rising to £53,342 per annum,

The Senior Lecturer posts will be Grade 9 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £56,349 rising to £62,925 per annum,

We also welcome part-time applicants who will be paid on a pro-rata basis.
