We are now recruiting our third cohort of 30 talented and enthusiastic PhD students to start in September/October 2021.

The SFI Centre for Research Training in Advanced Networks for Sustainable Societies focuses on enabling technologies for future hyper-networks, including concepts such as network virtualization, dependable communications, Internet of Things, data driven network management and applications in sustainable and independent living. This centre will train the next generation of researchers who will seek solutions to the technical and societal challenges of global hyper-connectivity.

Our aim is to ensure that the next generations of communications technology are developed with human and societal benefit as a priority objective."

Funding notes & eligibility criteria

The ADVANCE postgraduate programme offers excellent students a fully-funded PhD where they will receive a tax-free stipend of €18,500 per year, four years of tuition fees, research and equipment costs and all costs associated with training related covered.

Eligibility criteria & application process

We invite applications from individuals who hold at least a 2.1 honours undergraduate degree in either Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Psychology, Social Science. Other qualifications in disciplines related to listed research areas will also be considered.

Funding

Accepted PhD students will receive a stipend of €18,500 (tax free) and a tuition fee contribution of €5,500 per annum for up to 4 years. Additional funding is available to support equipment, materials, training and travel expenses

The deadline for applications is the 5th of March 2021

Alongside the completed application form, candidates will be asked to provide the following:

  • Primary and highest degree(s) and awarding institutions; GPA/degree class.
  • A CV (maximum 3 pages)
  • Evidence of English language proficiency for non-native speakers based on IELTS (or similar) score of 6.5 (or similar local requirements)
  • Proposed supervisor(s) in order of preference (up to 3)
  • A max. 2 page statement of motivation including description of:
    • Why they wish to undertake an ADVANCE PhD (with reference to their future career plans)
    • The proposed research topic
    • Reasons for selecting the nominated supervisors.
