We have the opportunity for a Research Fellow to join the Pulmonary Immunology Group under the supervision of Dr Tom Wilkinson and Dr Karl Staples. Our group has a long-standing interest in the immunology of the respiratory tract with a specific focus on the role of inflammatory cells in chronic respiratory diseases, such as asthma and COPD.
The post holder will work on projects examining T2-pathways and cells in COPD and the interaction of the pulmonary immune response to novel therapeutic treatments. This project will build on our published work (Kim et al 2017, Eur Resp J).
The successful candidate should have significant relevant research experience and be qualified to PhD* level (or equivalent) in cell biology. An up-to-date knowledge of the latest developments in cellular immunology, relevant experience in cell culture, flow cytometry and other functional assays, and good organisational skills are required.
We are looking for someone who is motivated, a good team player with excellent communication skills, capable of delivering research tasks timely and with accuracy. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes post-docs, PhD students, clinicians, and also junior staff that you may help supervise. Experience of working with clinical samples and a good laboratory practice framework are desirable.
This post will be primarily based within the Southampton General Hospital campus, occupying modern, well-equipped, purpose built laboratories, with support from clinical and laboratory based senior colleagues.
For an informal discussion or to arrange a visit, please email Dr Karl Staples (email@example.com).
* Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
