This is a full time (35 hours per week), fixed term role from 1st June 2021 - 31st May 2024.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow to fill a 3-year position within the Genetics and Genomics Division at the Roslin Institute. The role of the postholder of this 3-year vacancy will be to use a multi-omics approach to investigate the seasonal genomics underlying the annual migratory breeding cycle in wild birds. The post holder must have a PhD or PhD near completion in a relevant subject (bioinformatics, genomics or similar).

Specific Objectives:

  1. Develop high quality reference genomes for RCS, GWCS and NWCS.
  2. Dissect transcriptional and translational regulatory networks across the sparrow breeding cycle.
  3. Identify seasonal epigenetic regulation across the sparrow genome.
  4. Develop a genome-wide model for the regulation of seasonal cycles to better predict robustness of wild birds to climate change.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be skilled in genomic/transcriptomic analyses.
  • Be comfortable working within a linux environment.
  • Have some knowledge of seasonal genomics/avian biology.
  • Be experienced in writing/preparing scientific publications.
  • Have the ability to work individually and as part of a team to meet specified deadlines.
