Professor in Civil Engineering/Engineering Mechanics

The James Watt School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Professor who will provide leadership in research and research-led education in Civil Engineering/Engineering Mechanics as a member of the Division of Infrastructure and Environment.

The Division of Infrastructure and Environment has four research Themes (Mechanics of Materials & Structures, Water & Environment, Smart Infrastructure, and Geotechnics) and hosts the Glasgow Computational Engineering Centre. We are seeking to appoint a professor to complement or expand our existing activities. We are particularly interested in the areas of computational mechanics (including fluid-structure interaction or the modelling of complex materials), smart materials and data-driven modelling for infrastructure and environment. We will, however, consider outstanding applicants whose research fits within our four Themes. The successful candidate will be expected to grow an internationally leading research group that is self-sustaining.

We are one of the most research intensive Engineering Schools in the UK with an annual research income of £19m p.a. In addition to the Research Divisions, we host the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre, a £50m research asset; major capabilities for the UK National Wind Tunnel Facility; the Electronic Systems Design Centre; the Centre for Medical and Industrial Ultrasonics; the Scottish Government Centre for 5G technology; and the Glasgow Computational Engineering Centre. All the Divisions support a broad range of research, led by our world-leading academics. All our research is carried out in our extensive laboratory and computing facilities.
