Based within the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) office in the NDM Research Building, Oxford, we are looking to appoint two group leaders report to the CAMS Oxford Institute (COI) Directors and to Head of the Nuffield Department of Medicine.
You will be the head of a significant research group within the COI, fostering significant scientific links with the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. You will play a leading role in the management of your group and have responsibility for the development of its strategic direction. You will be an internationally recognised authority in their field with will have primary responsibility for obtaining independent externally funding for the group’s research projects.
The field of research will be translational immunology with a particular interest in cancer and/or viral infections. You will run a programme rooted in basic science with the aim translating this research to clinical oncology or clinical infectious disease. You will work in Oxford but will have opportunities to visit CAMS institutes in China and to establish scientific collaborations.
You will initiate and implement long-term, often interdisciplinary research programmes in immunity to infection and cancers and develop novel areas of research for publication in high impact journals. You will also generate research income and actively promote the research area, write funding applications for new projects, and play a key role in establishing overall research strategy. In addition you will manage and monitor substantial research resources and budgets as well as provide effective people management by motivating, supervising and communicating with all members of the team and provide academic supervision for research students, academic visitors in Oxford and from CAMS.
You must hold a relevant PhD/DPhil as well as significant post qualification research experience. You will also provide a research proposal that is complimentary to the CAMS Oxford Institute’s research themes and aims and have experience in leading a successful and novel research programmes and evidence of an established international publication record is also required. Management of research projects, staff and PhD students and an international reputation and specialist knowledge in infection, inflammation and cancer epigenetics are also essential.
This full-time position is fixed term for 5 years in the first instance and is funded by CAMS-COI.
