The University of Warwick plays a key role in university esports, with the largest esports Society in the country and three-time National Student Esports University of the year. Building on an already impressive track record, the University of Warwick are the first Russell Group university to invest in the creation of an Esports Centre, providing a catalyst for education, research, regional engagement and innovation.
The Esports Centre will act as a multipurpose space and house the Esports Academy, for local schools, colleges, community groups, University and Pro teams alike. The Academy will be supported by the region’s games industry and encourage a talent pipeline of young people, bringing together target groups of players, testers and developers to work on early-stage R&D and innovation labs. Developing the Centre and The Academy will enable grass roots activity as well as giving the opportunity to stage high-profile, global events, competitions and tournaments. Using our already established links with Women in Games and the British Esports Association, the Centre will ensure diversity, inclusion and equality for all groups and teams is at the core of the Esports Centre. The flexible and innovative design of the Esports Centre will also enable an ‘on the road’ programme for 11 weeks of the calendar year.
Positioned within the University’s Innovation Group, at the heart of Warwick campus, this development now seeks a Head of Esports to drive the Centre forwards.
As Head of Esports you will be passionate about esports and possess a track record in developing new opportunities in this area. Motivated by the desire to make a positive impact on the learning and development of others, you will be experienced and knowledgeable about the esports industry, its relevance to the West Midlands region and its potential for innovation. You will be adept at building partnerships and establish rapport with a broad range of stakeholders quickly and constructively.
You will also be comfortable working towards a range of key performance indicators, some of which financial. Bringing your experience of the industry you will work creatively with the Esports Advisory Board to develop the required sustainable commercial model that supports longer term planning and investment.
