We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the Northeast of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.

The Role
The role will actively engage in applied research and business support activities as part of the collaborative Creative Fuse North East project led by Newcastle University. The role will come under the supervision of Newcastle University’s Principal Investigator for the project and operate as part of the central team delivering the Creative Fuse North East project.

This role is part funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and has been secured by the region's five universities in order to make creativity and innovation work better within the Creative, Digital and IT (CDIT) and broader economies of the North East.

This will involve conducting applied research and business engagement activities through the delivery of the Newcastle University Creative Fuse innovation programme. This will include using a range of online and in-person participatory action research approaches and will include taking responsibility for, and leading, direct business engagement and support as part of the project's innovation programme (this could include small-group workshop delivery, 1-2-1 support, and supervision of internships).

The role will include collaborating with academics in the Business School and wider HASS Faculty and contributing to and ideally leading the development of research publications, arising from engagements with North-East based SMEs developing their innovation capacity and creative potential. It will also contribute to the larger Creative Fuse programme and Research Group activity, both institutionally, but also within a regional and national context.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Professor Jonathan Sapsed, Principal Investigator, Creative Fuse North East, at

The post is full-time, fixed-term to 31st December 2022.
