Applications are invited from experienced Linux systems administrators to join Information and Computing Services (ICS) at the Department of Engineering's site in Trumpington Street.
You will deliver IT services, research support and advice to academic divisions C and F within the Department, working closely with academics and advising them on best practice for solving IT problems. The successful applicants will have technical responsibility for the design, delivery, support and continuous improvement of areas of the department's IT infrastructure such as storage and backup of large data, linux system administration, server clusters, scripting and authentication systems. By delivering against the IT Plan, and leading agreed technical projects, you will enable the department to pursue its teaching and research goals.
You will be educated to degree level or have an equivalent level of experience. The role requires someone with demonstrable experience of Linux system administration, knowledge of scripting languages, managing technical activities, evidence of working at a tactical or operational level to deliver technology change, and strong planning skills. In addition to this, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, an ability to work as a highly pro-active, persuasive and enthusiastic team member, together with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organisation.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
