The Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences is a national and international visitor research centre which runs research programmes on selected themes in the mathematical sciences. The Newton Gateway to Mathematics is a national intermediary for mathematical sciences in the UK and develops and runs knowledge exchange activities as part of its programmes of work. This includes events (around 20-25 per year), involving researchers and policy makers from academia, business, industry and the public sector.
We wish to recruit an Events and Marketing Assistant to join a small team supporting the work of the Newton Gateway to Mathematics, the impact initiative of the Isaac Newton Institute. Reporting to the Gateway Manager, the post-holder will provide administrative support for events. This will include booking facilities, venues, accommodation and catering, as well as liaising with IT to ensure appropriate technical support, sending out invitations and managing responses electronically. As well as setting up and hosting the conference welcome desk, the post-holder will set up Zoom webinars/meetings for virtual or hybrid events and assist with hosting them.
Additionally, the position will involve management and updating of the contacts database. There will also be aspects of marketing communications such as updating the website and assisting with social media activity. The post holder plays a key role in supporting the team and will provide secretarial and administrative support as well as assisting with financial systems administration.
Applicants should have a good general education, to at least 'A' level standard (or equivalent), to include GCSE English language and mathematics. They should also have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels both verbally and in writing, as the position involves the need to work closely with senior individuals from government, business and industry. Excellent organisational skills and familiarity with electronic information systems, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and databases are necessary.
The post-holder should have previous administrative experience. Additionally, experience of events coordination would be advantageous, with a capacity for accuracy and the ability to multi-task and cope with tight deadlines. They should have an enthusiastic and flexible approach to working in a team and on their own initiative. Knowledge and experience of digital marketing and social media tools is also highly desirable.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 October 2022 in the first instance.
