Working as a part of the Supercomputing Wales consortium Swansea University is seeking a Senior Domain-Specific High Performance Computing Research Software Engineer to support the constantly growing HPC activity and research community at Swansea University.
Supercomputing Wales is a strategic programme of investment in Higher Education intended to change the way supercomputer facilities are used to support research activities in Wales. The programme is led by Cardiff University, in a consortium with Aberystwyth, Bangor and Swansea Universities.
To fill these roles, Swansea University is looking for candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
The holders of these positions should have a thorough understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics and/or Aerospace Engineering and/or Advanced Manufacturing, including making use of programming, in particular on High Performance Computing platforms.
The holders of these positions should have a good practical or theoretical background and understanding of Bio-Informatics and/or Health Informatics, with experience in computer modelling using High Performance Computing platforms and/or analysis of large data sets.
The holders of these positions should have working knowledge of one of (a)Computational Physics (and in particular, Lattice Gauge Theories); (b) Remote Sensing; (c) Visualisation techniques. In addition, they would have a high degree of competence in High Performance Computing programming techniques and/or analysis techniques applied to large data sets.
It is anticipated that, while starting with specific expertise in some areas, during the course of the project the Senior Research Software Engineers will develop expertise in other areas, thus gaining the ability to assist a wider community of HPC users. Hence, commitment to continuous professional development is an essential part of these roles.
