About the Role

The School of Geography is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Development Geography (permanent, starting 1 January 2022). The post is new and has been established to support the delivery of our new BA Global Development programme which will admit its first students in September 2022. The appointee will enhance the research and teaching activities of one or more areas of human geographical research in the School (Development and Social Justice; Knowledge, Interventions and Networks in Health; Culture, Space and Power; Economy) and we are keen to hear from candidates with interests in race, climate change, and development policy and practice. They will make a range of contributions to the School’s educational programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including teaching some of the compulsory elements of the new Global Development programme, and contributing to development geography modules at postgraduate level.

About You

The successful candidate will have been awarded a PhD and be developing a reputation for internationally excellent research in Development Geography. They will have research-led teaching experience appropriate to their career stage, and passion and commitment to delivering an outstanding student experience to a diverse student population at both undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels.

We particularly welcome applications from people who identify as being from a Black, Asian or other minority ethnic group as these groups are underrepresented in Human Geography at Queen Mary and more broadly within the discipline in the UK. Queen Mary is committed to advancing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). The University holds a Silver Athena SWAN award for advancing gender equality, is a Stonewall Diversity Champion, and offers a number of development programmes including Springboard, Aurora and B-MEntor.
