BIMM Institute - Marketing - Screen & Film School Brighton

Contractual Hours: 37.5 hours a week 9.00am to 5.30pm Monday-Friday (Some weekend work with events). Location is in Brighton though some travel around the South East will be required.

About Screen and Film School

Screen and Film School delivers high quality Film and Screen education, to train the next generation of creatives, technicians and production professionals. At SFS we offer a BA (Hons) Filmmaking and BA (Hons) Film Business & Production, as well as a suite of short courses, and plan to further develop our courses in the coming years in order to best satisfy the needs of this evolving industry. SFS is recognised and supported by industry partners and our courses are delivered by a team of industry professionals who are keen to share their knowledge and experience. The creative outcomes of our students include producing festival winning short films, music promos and documentaries.

Working at SFS requires both knowledge and experience of the contemporary Film, Screen and TV industry as well as experience within the education sector, to be able to support our students and ensure that they can realise their potential. SFS works closely with and is supported through its partnership with the BIMM Group. BIMM Institute has colleges in eight cities where creative arts matter and thrive - London, Berlin, Hamburg, Dublin, Brighton, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham. In addition, ICTheatre and Performer’s College - leading providers of practical contemporary Performing Arts education, are also a part of the BIMM Group of colleges, offering even greater collaborative opportunities for all students within the group.

Person specification

The post holder will have a central role in the recruitment of new students for Screen and Film School Brighton and raising aspirations of young people who are passionate about filmmaking. Working closely with the Applicant Experience Manager, you will be responsible for building relationships with teachers and careers advisors, delivering presentations and workshops, and contributing to the development of a strategic programme of outreach work for schools and colleges in the South East, London and South West as well as other geographic areas.

A key aim of the role is to further build and develop the film school’s profile amongst feeder schools and colleges to strengthen links and generate undergraduate applications in line with Screen and Film School’s targets. Working closely with the Access & Participation Coordinator to continue to raise aspirations and awareness amongst under-represented groups in line with our Access and Participation Plan commitments is also important.

You will have excellent public speaking and presentation skills and have strong experience in partnership working as well as building and nurturing effective relationships. Ideally, you will possess an understanding of effective evaluation and measurement by being able to track the success of your outreach activity through key performance indicators.
You will have the skills to build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders and be a proactive and confident communicator. You will also have a good understanding of, and commitment to, the importance of widening access in Higher Education and a passion for creative arts education.

This is an exciting time to join the growing student recruitment and outreach team, which is responsible for the recruitment of students onto Screen and Film School’s full-time Further Education and Higher Education portfolio of courses.

Essential criteria for applicant

  • Confident public speaker
  • Excellent personal presentation
  • Strong communication skills – verbal and written
  • Experience in school contact data management
  • Knowledge of UK education system at further and higher education level
  • Knowledge of or experience in Partnership working
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects within deadlines
  • Proven customer service skills
  • Able to work with set targets
  • Advanced in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Team player but able to work independently and remotely
  • A full and clean Drivers Licence is preferred

Desirable criteria for applicant

  • A background in higher education, or further education within the creative arts sector
  • Previous or current work experience at SFS or a BIMM Group college
  • A background in either the film industry, creative arts, or education
  • Knowledge of UCAS and admissions processes generally within higher education
  • Knowledge of access and participation and an understanding of how they integrate with student recruitment and admissions activities
  • Event organisation experience

Key accountabilities

You will work with the Screen and Film School Head of Marketing and Admissions, SFS Marketing and Admissions team and the Access & Participation Coordinators on a weekly basis to meet the following key accountabilities:

  • Implement the student recruitment and outreach strategy for target markets across London, South East and South West
  • Monitor key performance indicators to ensure outreach activity is converting to applications
  • Design interactive online and offline content for young people and schools/teachers
  • Deliver engaging presentations and workshops for a variety of stakeholders including prospective students and teachers
  • Manage a network of contacts in schools and colleges to promote recruitment activities, including expanding on the existing database and engaging with new markets
  • Deliver the School Partnership Programme
  • Effectively evaluate activities to track and monitor engagement from students
  • Attend recruitment fairs and provide accurate information on Screen and Film School and its courses to prospective students
  • Research trends and best practice across the UK education sector to inform our provision
  • Develop strong relationships with local teams including the College Principals, academic and professional services teams
  • Maintain good data compliant with GDPR standards
  • Follow safeguarding procedure and pass a DBS check
  • Undertake any other responsibilities as required by the Head of Marketing and Admissions
