An HR Assistant is sought by East Devon District Council, seconded from the University of Exeter. You will provide support on several projects relating to recruitment and retention, along with gaining exposure to the full range of HR activities. This role is available immediately until 30 November 2022 and is part of the Graduate Business Partnership Scheme. The role will be a mix of remote working (in the UK) and office based in Honiton as required by the line manager.

You will be working closely with the Council’s HR Manager and HR Team, and will be undertaking a range of activity, including analysis of key workforce and other data to inform the recruitment and ‘grow our own’ activity, developing and running focus groups with existing apprentices to inform ‘grow our own’ activity, and getting involved in conversations with the wider Council team and external organisations to help shape our offer. The appointee will also provide additional capacity to support managers and the recruitment co-ordinators to ensure that vacancies are recruited to in a timely manner, together with identifying and inputting into the development of additional tools (e.g. checklists etc.) to support the recruitment process, and work with Communications Team colleagues to develop the use of social media to support the Council’s employer brand, ‘grow our own’ and recruitment strategy. In addition to this the appointee will support the establishment of new apprenticeship pilot programmes, including recruitment and promotion of the schemes, develop an apprenticeship peer support network and the identification of any additional training/support, and support the development of a revised work experience offer.
We are looking for a flexible and proactive graduate with strong analytical skills, attention to detail and excellent social media skills. Applicants will also have report writing and presentation skills, excellent listening and interpersonal skills and ability to work with a range of people, at all levels, both within and outside the organisation, together with high level of organisational skills and ability to manage a range of priorities. In addition to this applicants will have an interest and understanding of human resource management and equality, diversity and inclusion strategy and practice, and an enthusiasm to learn, develop and try new things.
