Location: Cambridge
Salary: £27,116 to £31,406 pro rata
Hours: Part Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 8th October 2021

The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics, a vibrant, busy and welcoming place to work - is looking for maternity leave cover for one of our Section Coordinators, supporting the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics Section. If you like to be busy, relish a challenge and enjoy variety in your work, this might be the role for you. This role would be ideal for a Grade 3 or 4 administrator looking for development experience in general university administration and undergraduate programme administration. The Professional Services team in MMLL is friendly, supportive and dynamic and enjoys a strong collaborative working relationship with our academic and research colleagues based on principles of mutual respect.

The MMLL Faculty incorporates six subject-area administrative hubs, or 'Sections', grouped by subject and/or language specialism. This vacancy is assigned to the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics Section (TAL) and the successful candidate will work closely with the five other members of the Section Support Team and have line management support from our Assistant Faculty Manager.

You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of TAL operations, coordinating undergraduate teaching and examining and providing general administrative assistance in support of other Faculty-wide and Section-specific activities, including acting as Secretary to the Board of Examiners for the Linguistics Tripos and supporting the management committee for the Applied Linguistics Fund. The Faculty runs a program of outreach events, including its own undergraduate open day, which you will be actively involved in supporting.

Our ideal candidate will have experience of working in an administrative role, ideally in Higher Education, as well as excellent communication skills and a successful track-record of contributing to the development of administrative systems and processes to improve the service provided. We are looking for someone who is well-organised, works well as part of a team and who has a commitment to providing high quality services to our students and staff. The ability to manage competing priorities and move between tasks at short notice to meet deadlines, without compromising quality, is also high on our list of essential criteria.

This is a temporary position, providing cover for the current role holder whilst on maternity leave. This post is fixed-term for 12 months or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier. The hours of work are 22.5 per week, ideally worked over 4 or 5 days.

Informal enquiries about the role are always welcome - please email April McIntyre, Assistant Faculty Manager (ajm325@cam.ac.uk) if you would like to find out more about the role. If you have any questions about the application process, please contact our HR Team on MMLLPersonnel@admin.cam.ac.uk.

The Closing date for applications is Midnight (BST) on Wednesday 20th October 2021.

Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
