The School of Health and Social Care

The School has an excellent reputation for teaching and research in health and social care. Our academic members of staff include dental professionals, social workers, nurses, allied health care professionals, psychologists and sociologists. The School is run over two campuses, based at Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses. 

We are at the forefront of preparing people to solve real-life issues in health and society, offering courses and research that both commissioners and employers believe in. We are now looking to appoint a Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy, part-time at the Grade 8 ASE level.

Duties of the Role

The post includes a significant contribution to our Speech and Language Therapy courses at Colchester campus (these are run at UG and PG level).  It is expected that you would assist the Head of Division, providing practical support to the team and undertake programme/ module leadership and teaching, and assessment duties. 

Duties will include engaging effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the School, and developing a broad understanding of how such activities support student learning and design, plan and deliver learning (modules, programmes of study, etc.) in creative and innovative ways appropriate to the subject area and level.

This post will require management, administration, supervision, and support for staff alongside, assessment and teaching of students on our existing modules, and generally enhancing our research-led teaching in Speech and Language Therapy.

Qualifications and Skills required

The successful candidate will hold a relevant degree in Speech and Language Therapy practice, have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate plus HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist, or an equivalent EU/International registration.

It is essential that candidates also have a commitment to uphold the HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and to exhibit professional behaviours and attitudes in keeping with the HCPC and NHS values. Along with having experience of working independently in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in engaging and innovative ways and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
