Job information

The Bid Support Unit sits within the Research & Innovation Service and reports to the Head of Research Services. The team provides a range of support to academics and other staff, contributing to the University’s research, innovation and enterprise agenda. This is achieved through facilitating the delivery of funded projects that are of benefit to the University and to its communities, and supporting the University’s REF submission. 

We are currently seeking a customer focussed, committed individual with experience of supporting funded project activity in an academic environment to join this supportive and hardworking team. Applicants will be confident in working with data, numerate, able to write for a range of audiences, have an understanding of the funding landscape and be positive and enthusiastic.

Activities carried out by the post holder would include

  • Co-ordinating bids to a range of funders such as research councils, trusts and other national and local funding agencies.
  • Using bespoke software to cost bids accurately, in accordance with funders’ guidelines and university requirements
  • Pro-actively seeking new funding opportunities and communicating them effectively to academics
  • Supporting the contract approval process for successful projects
  • Organising and delivering talks to enable staff to gain skills and confidence in this area
  • Collating data to supporting the University’s next and future Research Excellence Framework submissions
  • Providing reports on bidding activity and post award project monitoring
  • Managing enquiries from academics as well as other departments
