We invite applications for the John Rylands Research Institute Manager. This post will be based at the John Rylands Library. 

The Manager will lead on operational activity and play a key role in the strategic approach of the Institute in order to further our mission of promoting and supporting world-leading academic research based on the outstanding Special Collections of the University of Manchester Library. The Manager will work closely with the Director, Hannah Barker, and will also collaborate extensively with academics and library staff working with the Special Collections, as well as with colleagues in other parts of the University. 

This is a varied and interesting role that will suit someone with a sound knowledge and experience of research in a discipline which links broadly to the Special Collections at the John Rylands Library and an understanding of the current and emerging research environment for the Humanities in the UK and abroad. Applicants will need a first degree and experience in postgraduate study, excellent communication and administrative skills, a collaborative, creative and flexible approach to working in a multi-disciplinary team, and an enthusiasm for Special Collections research. They will need to have experience of project management and a proactive and creative approach to achieving results. Experience of doctoral research, grant-writing and/or fundraising will be an advantage.
