Summary of Role

Lead on setting up and running the research project with support from the Principle Investigators, which will involve:
•    Day to day management including supporting study governance and processes 
•    Contribute to the development of methods
•    Recruiting secondary schools and teacher, student, and parent participants
•    Managing staff to undertake fieldwork 
•    Quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis 
•    Reporting to Study Steering Group and Co-Investigator meetings 
•    Preparing presentations, reports, and papers for publication 
•    Contributing to writing further research proposals 

Main Duties/Responsibilities

The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.
•    Support study governance and processes including study registration, liaison with ethics committee and updating study documents as needed
•    Contribute to the development of methods, including survey measures and topic guides for focus groups
•    Recruit schools and participants 
•    Review relevant literature 
•    Collect, analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data
•    Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
•    Present and disseminate research outputs, including drafting academic publications
•    Train and manage staff to undertake data collection in schools
•    Provide guidance, as required, to support staff and any students who may be assisting with the research 
•    Undertake management/administration arising from research
•    Contribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administration
•    Contribute to enterprise, business development and/or public engagement activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leader
•    Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
•    Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.

Person Specification

•    A high classification first degree and a PhD in a relevant population health and/or education research area
•    High level analytical capability in quantitative and qualitative fields
•    Fluency in quantitative and qualitative methods and ability to contribute to new methodology
•    Practice experience in conducting mixed-methods research and analysing the resulting data
•    Experience in population health-related behavioural and/or education research
•    Ability to communicate complex information clearly to a variety of audiences, including children, parents and professionals from other disciplines (e.g. teachers)
•    Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively 
•    Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
•    Contribute to the planning and organising of the research project
