Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships

Applications are invited from suitably qualified researchers wishing to apply for the for Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship scheme through the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages at the University of Oxford.

Fellowships are tenable for three years on a full-time basis and are intended as an opportunity to undertake a significant piece of publishable research. Further details about the scheme are available at: http://www.leverhulme.ac.uk/funding/ECF/ECF.cfm

Applicants must have submitted their doctoral thesis by 4pm on the Leverhulme closing date of 24 February 2022, and normally no more than four years before the closing date (but see the Leverhulme guidance for more detail).

The Faculty will hold an internal competition to decide which application(s) will be put forward under the scheme, so applicants should not approach the Leverhulme Trust directly or open a Leverhulme application until Faculty support is confirmed in writing.  The selected candidates will need to attend a (virtual) workshop on Thursday 20 January 2022.

Applications should be sent electronically to recruitment@mod-langs.ox.ac.uk by 12 noon on Wednesday 5 January 2022.  Application material should be submitted as one combined PDF document.

The application should comprise:

  1. A completed coversheet available at https://www.mod-langs.ox.ac.uk/job-vacancies
  2. a CV, two pages at most, including education, publications, any awards, thesis title, and examiners;
  3. a draft statement of post-doctoral research, two pages at most;
  4. a 150-word abstract summarising the research for a general audience;
  5. an indication of what additional research expenses might be planned;

In addition, you should identify a named mentor from among the permanent members of the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages, who must provide a statement of support (to be sent directly to recruitment@mod-langs.ox.ac.uk by 12 noon on Wednesday 5 January 2022); and academic reference addressing the significance and originality of the proposed project and your suitability to undertake it (to be sent directly to recruitment@mod-langs.ox.ac.uk by 12 noon on Wednesday 5 January 2022).

Please email recruitment@mod-langs.ox.ac.uk for an expression of interest cover sheet.
