A full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available to work on the engineering of filamentous fungi to produce high-value chemicals. The position is offered for four years as part of a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship award and is based in the laboratory of Dr Fabrizio Alberti. Work in the Alberti lab aims to understand and engineer microbial natural product biosynthesis and to develop new tools for the genetic engineering of fungi.

As part of this project, you will work closely with the Principal Investigator and a Senior Research Technician to design, develop and test new tools for the engineering of filamentous fungi aimed to study natural product biosynthesis and to improve yields of high-value chemicals production. You will use a variety of molecular microbiology and omics tools, including CRISPR/Cas9-based genome editing and RNAseq, to develop tools for the engineering of fungi for the heterologous production of high-value chemicals. You will work closely with the Principal Investigator and internal/external collaborators, and you will be expected to present and disseminate the project findings with the project partners and the scientific community. You will be required to work both independently and as part of a team, and to write manuscripts for publication in high-impact journals.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Dr Fabrizio Alberti (f.alberti@warwick.ac.uk).

You should hold a PhD in molecular microbiology, synthetic biology or a related subject. You should have experience in synthetic biology approaches and in the metabolic engineering of microorganisms. Previous experience in the engineering of filamentous fungi and in natural product chemistry would be desirable. You will have excellent organisational and communication skills that are necessary for the dissemination of the outcomes of the project.
