Transforming lives through excellent education
London Metropolitan University is a striving and ambitious institution committed to transforming the lives of its students through excellent education.
We are committed to making education available to people from all walks of life, creating and advancing social justice, social mobility and access to opportunity and professions. Our graduates benefit personally, but also contribute to society, culture, public service and the economy in all areas of London, the UK and around the world.
We have a bold university strategy and we launched a transformational race equity strategy this year. We have signed up to the Mindful Employer Charter, we are championing the advancement of gender equality through the Athena Swan charter, we are a proud Stonewall Diversity Champion and we are a Disability Confident Committed employer. We are also sector-leading for parental leave entitlements.
Over 80% of our students are mature, and the majority are from Black or minoritised backgrounds. Over 140 different nationalities are represented in our student body. Our local boroughs have some of the UK’s highest deprivation levels. Our learning and teaching philosophy is positioned to advance social justice, enabling students to see themselves celebrated in the curriculum. We have rejected deficit model approaches in our learning, teaching and student support.
The future at London Met is immensely exciting. As well as delivering fair outcomes for our students, we want our staff and students to have an excellent experience, and we want to significantly increase the volume of internationally excellent and world-leading research.
With this in mind, there has never been a more opportune or important time to join our fantastic community as our Dean and Head of the School of Social Professions and Sciences.
