A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in Prof. Christophe Eizaguirre’s research group, to work on “the role of sex steroid hormones in the sex determination of sea turtles”. This is a NERC funded project which aims to understand sex-ratio bias and the evolution of rescue mechanisms in a species with temperature-dependent sex determination.

The successful candidate should have a PhD (or be close to completion) in Evolutionary Biology, Genomics, Biochemistry or a related field. They should provide evidence of expertise in lab skills such as functional genetics, enzyme expression or library preparation for high-throughput genome sequencing. Alternatively, if candidates are more data-analysis oriented, they should provide evidence of programming skills and should be proficient in genome analysis. Proven track record of published research is essential. Self-motivation, an ability to work as part of a team and an interest in new research questions will be fundamental to the position.

Based on the skills of the successful candidate, they will either contribute to the laboratory side of the project, expressing sea turtle enzymes in E. coli to test specific dynamics, or will be involved in genome/DNA methylation sequence analysis to evaluate the adaptive potential of the species.

Queen Mary is one of the top research-led universities in the UK and was ranked 9th among the UK multi-faculty universities in the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014).
