Job Summary

We are looking to recruit a Research Associate (PDRA), with proven expertise in the area of RNA therapeutics, extracellular vesicles, cardio-immunology and cardiometabolic disease. This research position will support the research programme of Professor Emanueli, British Heart Foundation (BHF) Chair in Cardiovascular Science at the National Heart and Lung Institute. The Emanueli Team develops clinical-inspired basic research allowing to identify and validate new therapeutic targets of ischaemic disease. The role will have the opportunity to work under the direct supervision of Professor Emanueli, contributing directly to her studies, thus consolidating her/his publications records, and gaining grant preparation experience.

Duties and responsibilities

The PDRA will develop laboratory work and will additionally have the willingness to engage in scientific writing and giving presentations internally and externally. The role might supervise the projects of BSc and/or postgraduate students, collecting additional laboratory data of relevance for the progress of the PDRA studies. The person will dedicate part of their work to writing up manuscript drafts and parts of grant applications. The PDRA is expected to publish at least one high impact research paper as first-Author and to co-author additional publications from the Emanueli team.

Essential requirements

  • Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Biomedical subject or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience
  • Direct experience of cardiovascular biology during the PhD studies and/or as a first postdoc
  • Highly Skilled in acid nucleic biology (in the mammalian cardiovascular system) and the whole range of technologies requested to lead in this field. 
  • Good proficiency in cell culture and biology. Microscopies and flow cytometry/FACS
  • To have good understanding on all the range or methodologies necessary to build very high impact cardiovascular research articles (to be published in top specialist journals (such as Circ Res, JACC etc) multi-specialist journal (like Nature Cell biology, Nat Communication, Mol Therapy etc)

This is a Full Time and Fixed Term position until May 2025 based at the Hammersmith Campus, London.
