About the Role

Applicants are invited to apply for a full time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to undertake research into the history of British humanititain charities since the Second World War under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Professor Matthew Hilton. The post-holder will be responsible for research activities which will include: conducting primary archival research; analyzing online materials; writing reports and summaries of findings; and collecting some quantitative data to update existing data sets The post is a fixed term position until 31 August 2022. The post will be based in the School of History and will involve some travel to other UK sites.

The post holder will receive mentoring alongside a thriving postdoctoral community. Depending on the personal circumstances of the successful candidate, there will be scope for some time to be devoted to the post holder’s own research interests.

About You

The successful candidate will have a PhD (or be close to completion) in History or equivalent in a related discipline in humanities or social sciences. A knowledge of undertaking research in modern British history and academic scholarship/debate on twentieth century Britain is required, as well as experience in writing reviews of academic literature.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London with some travel to other sites. It is full time fixed term appointment until 31 August 2022 to start as soon as possible. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £32,087 - £40,797 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
