This post is to provide maternity leave cover until October 2022.

The Mental Health Coordinator post provides information, advice and support to disabled students and prospective students and those who may be affected by wellbeing and/or mental health difficulties. This includes face to face (drop-in sessions and appointments), telephone and email support. The Mental Health Coordinator will identify reasonable adjustments for individual students and liaise with academic and other staff to ensure their needs are disseminated in a confidential manner, as well as promoting the service and leading on wellbeing initiatives throughout the UCL community.

Main purpose of the job is to develop and deliver non-therapeutic support services aimed at enabling study, specifically for students with mental health difficulties at UCL. To provide information and advice to disabled students and prospective disabled students, particularly those with mental health difficulties, to provide information and advice to students with wellbeing needs. In undertaking these responsibilities the post holder will liaise with students, members of staff in UCL academic units and UCL Professional Services divisions, and external organisations.

The candidate should have knowledge of issues relating to student welfare and knowledge of NHS and community support services. The candidate must have an understanding of the UK higher education sector, UK disability legislation and confidentiality (data protection issues). They should have a relevant professional qualification and experience in providing support to students with mental health difficulties, wellbeing needs and disabled students. Experience of working in an environment which involves effective time management and prioritising to meet deadlines and have the ability to work independently as a part of a close knit team where tasks are shared.

They should possess excellent IT, written and spoken communication skills, an organised approach to work with a high standard of accuracy. They will have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to liaise with all types of people. They must have the ability to maintain a calm attitude under pressure, for example when dealing with challenging and stressful situations. They will have experience of supervising and coordinating the work of others; they will have experience of managing a demanding workload.

The post holder is required to complete a DBS check.
