Role summary

Under the direction of the eResources & Serials Team Leader the post holder will be responsible for managing and maintaining access to the library’s electronic resources (e-resources) using specialist library systems and tools. They will obtain and, with support from Head of Copyright and Licensing, review licence agreements that control access to this content and will maintain a licence repository. They will respond to enquiries from service users and library services colleagues and advise on e-resource matters, liaising with suppliers and ITS staff to resolve access issues. The post holder will input into system, process, and service development related to their role. They will also collate e-resource usage data to inform purchasing decisions and assess value for money.

Main duties

  • To manage and maintain access to electronic information resources (e-resources)
  • To investigate, manage and resolve electronic resource (e-resource) access issues
  • To support the collation of e-resource usage statistics
  • To administer e-resource licences
  • To support staff and service development and the work of Library Services
  • Supports equality and values diversity, moderating own behaviour to avoid unfair discriminatory impact or bias on others.

Person spec

  • Formal education to degree level or equivalent, or significant experience in an appropriate library, information, publishing, or IT support environment, with at least some of it having been gained in the further or higher education sector
  • Knowledge of the nature and complexity of serials publishing, procurement and access in both print and electronic media
  • Familiarity with current issues in scholarly communication
  • Experience of working with, and the ability to make effective use of, specialist library systems and tools used in the management of print and electronic resources
  • Ability to work on own initiative and in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritise and manage workloads, both personally and for colleagues, to meet deadlines in the face of conflicting demands
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, library users and information resource suppliers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain and instruct clearly and concisely
  • Excellent IT skills including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
  • Ability to suggest solutions, test and implement new approaches, services, or systems
  • Proactive and positive attitude to service delivery
  • Ability to organise information in a thorough and methodical manner
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, and approachability
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Commitment to continuous professional development
