We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist with a strong background in the evolutionary analysis of sequence data using phylogenetic and/or population genetic approaches. You will work with next-generation sequence data on the within-host evolutionary dynamics of Hepatitis C virus (HCV), with Dr Katrina Lythgoe’s Evolution of Viral Infections Research Group at the Big Data Institute. Prior experience working on HCV is not required, but you will have the aptitude to learn the essential biology.
You will be responsible for developing new, and adapting existing, analysis methods and mathematical models to better understand within-host HCV ecology and evolution. You will also carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups, and Participate in the dissemination of this work via presentations at academic meetings and conferences.
It is essential that you have a PhD (or close to completion) in an appropriate research area such as population genetics, phylogenetics and bioinformatics, along with a keen interest in the research described here. You will have strong analytical and quantitative skills and excellent problem-solving abilities, and have experience working with and analysing sequence data. Excellent communication skills including the ability to write for publication, and present is also essential for the role.
