The Centre for Film and Screen and the School of Arts and Humanities seek to appoint an Assistant Professor (formally known as University Lecturer) in Film and Screen Studies.

The Centre for Film and Screen is a world-leading Centre for teaching and research in film, media, and visual culture. Its members are drawn from the constituent faculties across the School of Arts and Humanities, as well as other parts of the University. We are home to flourishing MPhil and PhD programmes and we sponsor a rich array of research events and collaborations, as well as an annual filmmaker-in-residence.

The purpose of this post is to broaden and deepen teaching and research interests in the Centre for Film and Screen. The Centre welcomes a wide variety of historical and theoretical approaches to Film and Screen Studies. Candidates need to demonstrate teaching and research specialisation in one or more of the following areas: histories and theories of global film and media; diasporic filmmaking; digital/media theory; theories and histories of race and cinematic representation.

The successful candidate will be based at the Centre for Film and Screen, and the majority of their teaching and administrative responsibilities will be dedicated to the Centre and the development of its postgraduate teaching and supervision activities. The candidate will, contingent on their specialist research area, also be appointed to one of the following faculties in the School of Arts and Humanities: the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies; the Faculty of English; the Department of History of Art (within the Faculty of Architecture and History of Art) or the Faculty of Music.

A key aspect of the role is to contribute to the continued growth of Film and Screen Studies at Cambridge by taking an active role in developing the teaching and research at the Centre for Film and Screen, especially in relation to the expansion of its successful MPhil programme, which currently attracts over 40 full time students each year, and its flourishing PhD programme, on which there are currently approximately 20 enrolled students.

The successful candidate will also develop undergraduate teaching for their faculty (to be negotiated at the time of appointment) in their specialist area and undertake relevant administrative duties as appropriate.
