Location: Fielder Centre, Hatfield

Main duties and responsibilities

UH Venues is a trading name of UH Ventures Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Hertfordshire. This role will be based at the Fielder Centre in Hatfield, a Conference Centre operated by UH Venues. Working in a small, customer-focused team, the Chef will plan and prepare predominantly business lunches to Conference delegates.

You will maintain appropriate stock levels for upcoming business, and undertake general kitchen duties (e.g. washing up and cleaning of the kitchen and equipment). You will help the Fielder Centre Manager to cost menus, and also supervise staff working in the Fielder Centre kitchen.

The successful candidate will enjoy leading a small kitchen team to plan and deliver pre-booked catering between 10-300 covers. You will work closely with all UH Venues staff to ensure we are meeting or exceeding our customers' expectations.  The role will give you the ability to design and create the offering to reflect seasonal availability integrate personal flair.

Skill and experience required

Your application will show that you have proven experience of food production and presentation, and experience of providing excellent customer service.

You’ll have a working knowledge of current food hygiene regulations and Health and safety regulations. Ability work on your own initiative, but also be an effective part of a team, is key, so you’ll have fair communication skills. You’ll bring fair written and numerical skills and show you can compile and maintain records. This role needs someone with the ability to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekend events.

Qualifications required

You’ll hold at least a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate, although formal catering qualifications would be advantageous.
