Summary:

The Student Wellbeing Adviser is part of a centrally-managed Wellbeing Service under Student Welfare & Wellbeing and sits within academic departments across the University, delivering frontline wellbeing support to students.

This role provides 1:1 support (face to face and remote) to assist students with their wellbeing and ensure they gain timely access to the most appropriate pathway and intervention, thus enabling them to achieve their academic potential. The role combines the skills of pastoral support, assessment and care navigation. Key to the role will be the ability to utilise psychological formulation (i.e. construct meaning out of mental distress) and build trusting relationships quickly whilst motivating individuals to make sustained changes.

The post-holder will be required to carry out a holistic assessment & formulation of wellbeing needs in order to assist students towards increased self-management of symptoms and improved tolerance of distress. The role will also involve identifying opportunities to support individuals with their wellbeing by providing interventions and helping them to access appropriate support.

The Wellbeing Advisers work closely with academic departments to deliver wellbeing support locally, as well as operating alongside colleagues within central Student Support Services.

We are seeking highly motivated, confident and proactive individuals who are passionate about mental health and wellbeing and have the relevant qualification and/or experience to support students to successfully navigate the demands of University life.

The successful candidate will need good knowledge of student welfare issues, experience in caseload management and have excellent team working skills.

We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK.
