JOB OVERVIEW

The University of Sheffield International College is the largest pathway college within the UK & Europe, our international students study bespoke academic programmes, which provide them with a pathway into the University of Sheffield for undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.

The College Director will provide academic and operational leadership to the teams responsible for:

  • Designing and delivering the portfolio of programmes.
  • Leading the relationship with TUoS in respect of operational, academic management and development matters.
  • Delivering quality assurance and enhancement of our curriculum.
  • Providing thought leadership in the development and use of learning technologies to drive student performance and facilitate opportunities.
  • Supporting and guiding the Professional Services team, to ensure that key legislation is adhered to (Health and Safety, Safeguarding, UKVI Compliance) and that high-quality services, support and experiences are delivered to students and staff members alike.

You will have proven experience of strategic leadership in a complex multi-disciplinary environment, with evidence of significant success and results. You will have a strong understanding of UK Higher Education and experience of managing study programmes, student support services, administration, and staff within an international, UK further and/or Higher Education context.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide powerful and inspirational leadership across the college, working collaboratively with your x3 Deputy Directors
  • Articulate and implement the College’s strategic approach to the academic partnership with the host university, progression, including appropriate progression routes that maximise opportunities for recruitment to the college
  • Attend and actively contribute to relevant university partnership Boards and committees and work with The University of Sheffield colleagues through approved liaison points and report regularly on these through the college deliberative and management structures
  • Set the framework for and oversee the allocation of teaching resources, ensuring that teaching and learning activities are planned and delivered within an agreed budget and meet operational margins.
  • Ensure that effective processes are in place for the recruitment of academic staff and ensure that all academic staff are suitably qualified to teach sessions and courses on which they are scheduled.
  • Effectively deal with serious incidents and crises, supporting and guiding staff to make decisions themselves and taking the lead where appropriate and following escalation protocols.
  • Lead on ensuring that the design and delivery of all courses are conducted with reference to and according to Study Group’s, partner universities and relevant external agencies’ quality frameworks, policies, procedures and codes of practice. This includes the production and delivery of such documentation as is required by the Study Group’s Academic Office/Registry on an Annual or ad hoc basis.
  • Analyse data and feedback from a wide variety of sources to monitor progress towards progression targets, planning and implementing remedial actions where necessary, supporting the relevant centre teams to achieve this.
  • Provide reports, data and recommendations to key partnership meetings and Provider management and Academic governance meetings.
  • Ensure that high-quality service levels are delivered to students and other stakeholders, and that student satisfaction remains at a high level.
  • Maintain the ISC’s deliberative structures, ensure that oversight of courses running in each programme to ensure consistency across the delivery of various courses in each programme.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Leadership and management experience in a teaching and learning environment
  • Experience of teaching in the UK higher or further education
  • Experience in teaching international students
  • Experience in partnership working or partnership management in the education sector.
