We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the Magill group and be based at the MRC Brain Networks Dynamics Unit (MRC BNDU), located within the Pharmacology building on Mansfield Road. The group uses multidisciplinary approaches to study basal ganglia circuits, employee innovative techniques to monitor and manipulate neurons. The proposed research will take full advantage of the intellectual environment, capital equipment, technical expertise and excellent infrastructure in place at the MRC BNDU.
The Research Assistant will provide specialist technical support and conduct original collaborative research as part of scientific programmes that aim to define the function and dysfunction of basal circuits in the brain. This will include sectioning and processing of brain tissue by routine and specialised (immuno)histochemical methods; and the use of light and electron microscopy. The post offers an exciting opportunity to use and fain experience in lab management as well as the delivery of neuroscience research.
It is essential that the successful candidate hold a BSc or equivalent qualification in a relevant area of biological research and have experience in laboratory technician work and/or laboratory-based research related to the scientific investigation of the nervous system. They must also have experience of database management and in ensuring laboratory compliance with best practice as well as experience of selecting, following and adapting experimental protocols, and of identifying appropriate experimental methodologies. It would be beneficial if the postholder has experience of neuroanatomical techniques including microscopy and if they hold or have held a UK Home Office Personal Licence.
The post is full-time for a fixed-term until 31st March 2025 in the first instance.
