The Role

We are actively recruiting a new, research-active, Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Finance.

The ability to teach and effectively communicate Finance data analysis methods and practical implications of data analysis to students with no prior experience of Finance (such as undergraduates from multiple disciplinary), intermediate experience (such as our single honours Finance students and MSc Finance) and advanced knowledge (PhD students), is a key requirement for this position. The Arts programme, where students are taking Finance as one module amongst many is a key part of our student community, thus ability to engage such students in the joy, practicality and science of Finance are important.

Teaching in Finance covers a range of modules, which can be seen on our website under each of our programmes (www.maynoothuniversity.ie/school-business/our-courses). Teaching needs currently include undergraduate and postgraduate modules. These include individual Finance modules in non-Finance business degrees, double honours degrees where Finance is one of the majors, single honours Finance degrees, a range of taught postgraduate Finance degrees, and our PhD programme.

The successful applicant(s) will have a proven record of teaching, research and publication, appropriate to career stage. The appointee(s) will be expected to build a strong research profile that supports the School of Business and University’s research strategy including affiliating to the Research Institutes, where appropriate and working with colleagues on national and international research. The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance and generate publications of international standard.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline in the field of Finance that aligns with the School’s education and research priorities.
  • Candidates who have not yet completed their PhD but are expected to complete it shortly (by March 2022) may be considered (such candidates may be appointed at the level of Assistant Lecturer and can be converted to the role of Assistant Professor/Lecturer upon attainment of PhD and requisite publications through the normal university promotion processes);
  • A strong and demonstrated commitment to research and international publication in their specialist area of Finance research;
  • A demonstrated/realised capacity for publication in international, peer-reviewed journals;
  • Capacity to communicate and teach the implications of Finance theory, data analysis and pratical application to both specialist and non-specialist communities;
  • Experience of, and a demonstrated commitment to, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, programme development and academic innovation;
  • An ability to design, deliver and assess a range of Finance modules in and outside of her/his specialist area of research interest. This includes the capability to teach Finance theory, data analysis and interpretation of Finance in a business decision making context;
  • Good administrative, organisational, teamwork and communication skills;
  • A capacity to and enthusiasm for working in an inter-disciplinary environment within the wider context of the School of Business and University;
  • Experience in academic direction of undergraduate or postgraduate degrees;
  • Experience in supervising graduate research students;
  • A demonstrated track record of developing successful research funding applications;
  • A productive research network and international academic experience;
  • Administrative experience commensurate with managing a portfolio of teaching and research.
