As part of the Estates team, the Project Department manages the refurbishment of existing buildings and the construction of new. Projects currently being managed range from minor works to major capital projects. An example of which are:

Construction of a £60m replacement Health & Life sciences building comprising of BRU and teaching labs. Includes building demolition, services diversion 7 substation on site of old Engineering building at Whiteknights campus.

Refurbishment of Chemistry laboratories, Internal space move projects, variety of ggovernment-funded carbon reduction projects, creation of a new Clinical Suite – circa £2m investment to modernise and create a teaching and training facility for University and NHS use.

In preparation for development of the European Centre for Mid-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) headquarters we will be clearing the site. This includes several staff decants, building demolition, site clearance, rerouting of infrastructure services, replacement parking and the relocation of the School of Art

The School of Art relocation includes refurbishment and construction of an extension to existing buildings and staff moves.

Reporting to the Projects Director, the Senior Project Lead will have the capability of delivering a full range of capital, maintenance and departmental funded projects to specification, cost, quality and time expectations across the University’s estate portfolio.  Projects will include new build, refurbishment and maintenance schemes to a diverse range of property types including research facilities, teaching facilities, listed buildings, social and recreational space, commercial space, and public realm areas ranging from less than £500k to over £40m in value. The Senior Project Lead will be responsible for managing a portfolio of projects including the supervision of consultant project managers and design teams for the larger projects.

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work at a senior level in a client-side project lead role with full responsibility for managing projects from inception to completion, as part of a friendly, supportive and professional team.

You will have:

  • - Experience of directly procuring and managing a portfolio of construction projects from inception to completion in a lead client-side Project Manager role and be able to take responsibility and accountability for ensuring projects are delivered safely to specification, cost, quality and to programmes that may include BIM and soft landings;
  • - Excellent technical skills and background relating to construction and property including strong procurement and contract administration skills.
  • - Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with client facing experience. Ability to lead with an enthusiastic and engaging professional approach to proactively work with multiple stakeholders.
