The University of Reading is committed to supporting and developing the careers of our research staff and are one of only 6 UK Universities to have held the HR Excellence in Research (HREiR) Award for over 10 years.  We are now looking for a Researcher Development Project Officer to further enhance and deliver our Researcher Development action plan.

The postholder will be expected to work across the varied Schools within our University to engage with research staff and their managers, to foster and support networks and communities of practice and to bring the research staff voice to appropriate University committees and so inform policies. The successful candidate will chair the Research Staff Committee and will be a member of the University Committee on Researcher Development and Postgraduate Research Studies.

The role is available on a full-time, fixed term basis for up to 2 years. 

You will have:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to consult and collaborate with, and influence, a range of colleagues (Research Staff, Research Managers and University Leaders)
  • Understanding of research and the challenges for research staff 
  • Experience of Research Staff development, either of your own or of others
  • The ability to work independently to effectively prioritise and manage competing work demands, using judgement and initiative when required to make decisions
