We have an exciting new opportunity for a Finance Manager at the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics. Reporting to the Senior Research and Finance Manager, with responsibility for the effective and efficient day-to-day management of the Department’s finances, you will lead the Finance Team (a Finance Supervisor and two Accounts Assistants). You will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day management of the department’s financial functions, including ensuring all activities adhere to the University’s financial and personnel regulations and statutory legislation as appropriate.  You will work closely with the Research Administration and Facilitation Manager and have frequent contact with the HR Manager and the Head of Administration and Finance (who has overall responsibility for the administration and services in the department) and Principal Investigators.

You should also be experienced in communicating complex financial information to non-financial staff, including senior management and administrators and have a flexible positive attitude with a high level of personal effectiveness including the ability to effectively manage your own workload. Proven leadership, teamwork and problem solving skills are essential as well as a flexible, ‘can do’ attitude and a strong commitment to customer service.

You will be responsible for the resource planning, forecasting and budgeting processes and will continue to develop an enhanced management reporting process covering all of the department’s activities. You will be responsible for the full range of financial transaction processing carried out within the department.

The successful candidate will have knowledge, intellectual capacity, reasoning and analytical skills of a graduate or equivalent. Proven technical financial skills, including management accounting and reporting, budgeting and financial planning, and the ability to analyse large and complex data sets. They will have experience in a finance role in higher education or a public sector research organization, and knowledge of the UK research grant award system and the major academic and research funding bodies.

This post is offered on a permanent basis.
