WMG is a vibrant, cutting-edge research institution at the University of Warwick. We currently have a great opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to provide technical support for the Forming and Joining groups.
This role will focus on running experiments and tests to aid the smooth and efficient running of the forming and joining areas (inc. forming and joining experiments), recording of experimental procedure and results. This role fits into the program of work that will be carried out for the Forming and Joining theme of the WMG-Tata Steel strategic partnership. The aim of this work will be to characterise the mechanical performance of materials for their forming feasibility, joinability and in-service crashworthiness.
The individual will need strong time management skills and attention to detail whilst maintaining good health and safety practices. Good enthusiasm, communication skills and interpersonal skills are required, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. We are looking for someone with an HNC or equivalent qualification in Engineering, who has completed an apprenticeship. Some knowledge of lab-based characterisation equipment would be desirable, but training will be provided where there are gaps.
In return we will provide you with a great range of benefits which include an attractive pension scheme, 26 days holiday plus bank holidays and Christmas closure, some fantastic savings on a wide range of products and services, and excellent learning and development opportunities.
At WMG we are committed to supporting staff to achieve their potential. We currently hold the Athena SWAN Silver Award and the University of Warwick holds an Institutional Silver Award: a national initiative that recognizes the advancement of gender equality, representation, progression and success for all in academia. We are supportive of staff with caring responsibilities including a generous maternity/paternity/adoption/parental leave policy, and onsite childcare facilities. We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.
Full details of the duties and selection criteria for this role can be found in the vacancy advert on the University of Warwick's jobs pages. You will be routed to this when you click on the Apply button.
