This exciting opportunity is funded by a 2-year UK Medical Research Council Developmental Pathway Funding Scheme grant until February 2024 in the first instance

The Institute for Women’s Health, located in the heart of Bloomsbury, brings together scientists and clinicians to deliver innovative research focussed on identifying mechanisms and therapies for the most complex pregnancy problems. We are seeking an exceptional post-doctoral fellow to join our team developing a treatment for severe fetal growth restriction, using adenoviral VEGF gene therapy in the uterine artery.

The ideal candidate will be a fetal physiologist with experience in small animal surgery and/or myography and will use a guinea pig model of fetal growth restriction to evaluate the efficacy of our gene therapy in vivo.

You will need a PhD in a relevant area and proven experience with experimental animals and surgical techniques, together with a strong skillset in laboratory practice, data analysis and scientific communication. (If degree has not yet been granted, the final accepted version of the thesis should have been submitted to the degree granting university by the time of starting). A valid UK Home Office Personal Licence would be advantageous. Prior knowledge of pregnancy complications or gene therapy, peer-reviewed publications or skills in myography and/or preclinical ultrasound would also be a huge plus.

Please note that research staff that do not have a PhD in the subject will be appointed on Grade 6B, point 26; £33,958 per annum inclusive of London Allowance and will have the title Research Assistant. Research staff without a PhD may exceptionally be appointed as Research Fellow.
