Summary of Main Job Purpose:

To provide technical support in the areas of Audio-Visual specialism, which meet the needs of the course, portfolio, and students. To enable optimum use of technical facilities and actively support students to undertake cross-disciplinary practice.

  Main Duties/Responsibilities

  • To demonstrate the function of the AV equipment and processes used within your area of specialism. This demonstration to be carried out to groups and individual members of staff and students, in accordance with pre-defined lesson plans. Demonstrations and technical advice must include health and safety guidelines, technical and mechanical instruction, support image materials and to advise and consider appropriate technical advice to achieve the best possible result in line with expectations. This may affect the aesthetic potential of the work or works in progress.
  • To prepare and screen the different analogue and digital base media in a professional manner appropriate for an Academic performance. This may include the preparation of a 16mm projector or 4K digital projection.
  • To support the AV experience through understanding of existing formats (Extron, Christie products) and to research technological developments in relation to AV and IT.
  • To produce technical documents to support demonstrations and guides for AV stations and equipment.
  • To support postproduction and archiving of audio-visual materials using the appropriate software and equipment.
  • To carry out the maintenance and repair of Farnham AV equipment. Basic diagnostic and repair work to be carried out. Room booking should be notified if remedial works are predicted to affect any advance bookings. This should be escalated to the Technical Services manager before proceeding with any external solutions.
  • To set up or assist with Audio Visual equipment to support the Academic delivery. This will include assisting in setting up the furniture in the room to create the teaching environment. To maintain these rooms and adjoining areas in a clean and tidy condition; and to ensure that these rooms and adjoining areas are maintained in a way that enables other functions, such as cleaning and security, to carry out their duties effectively. This includes informing staff, line management, etc. when areas are not left in a proper state after use.
  • Setup, maintenance, and monitoring of AV technologies including Extron’s Global Viewer and Configurator systems, plus Lecture capture platform Panopto.
  • Oversee the deployment and management of university wide digital signage solution. Liaise with content production teams, enable live streaming, Scheduled content, and filter content to designated areas.
  • Maintain a thorough inventory of Audio/Visual equipment, supplies and monitoring the repair and replacement of non-working, damaged and/or obsolete equipment

Additional Duties:

  • To issue and receive equipment from the Equipment Hire Department using the equipment booking system. To maintain a proper record of the loans including all damage sustained by equipment while on loan. This to include the issue of learning equipment, to teaching staff for use in support of the teaching programmes.

   Other Duties
