This post is based in Research, Engagement, and Innovation Services (REIS) which is one of the University’s key professional service units, adding value and supporting the growth and quality of Swansea University’s cultural, social and economic impact through the delivery of excellent and fit for purpose research, engagement and innovation services. REIS provides professional support to Swansea University’s academic community, aiming to exceed our Research Income goal of £74.8 million by 2022. The role of Research Development Bid Writer is integral to this goal.

This role is based in Research Development within REIS – this team is tasked with identifying funding opportunities and supporting the application process, contracts, research governance & integrity.

The Research Development Bid Writer is a critical role in the delivery of high-quality research applications to funders, embedded in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Research Hub. The Bid Writers have a direct impact on the success of a bid, working side by side with our academic community and are indispensable. The role provides academics with proactive preparation, drafting, and editing of funding applications to ensure that all applications are well written, of a high quality, and accessible to lay readers.

The role encompasses aspects of the Research Engagement and Innovation Services (REIS) Research Development function in that the role-holder supports activities to identify appropriate funding calls and prioritises Hub responses to external funding opportunities in conjunction with potential Principal Investigators, ensuring compliance with University policies and procedures, and funding providers’ guidelines.

Essential criteria for this role include meeting the University’s Values: evidence of taking pride in delivering professional services and solutions, the ability to work together in an environment of equality, trust and respect to deliver services that strive to exceed the needs and expectations of customers. You will need to give evidence of providing a caring approach to all your customers ensuring a personalised and positive experience.

You will have to be educated to degree level or equivalent experience.

Experience must include:

  • The ability to translate and synthesise research into clear, concise written materials.
  • Evidence of high quality writing copy for funding proposals and proof reading with demonstrable results.
  • Working in a complex multi-faceted organisation with often competing priorities.
  • Experience of a creative approach to solve problems and generate innovative solutions to external funding opportunities.
  • Experience of working in partnership with stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes within defined timescales.
  • Experience of working in a marketing and or communications environment.
