We are seeking to hire a Head of Primary Education the University of Wolverhampton is a leading modern university with a tradition of providing opportunity and academic excellence dating back 150 years. The University serves a student body drawn predominantly from the West Midlands, with a significant UK wide population and a vibrant international community. The Head of Primary Education is a Principal Lecturer and a member of the SOE senior leadership team.

Head of Primary Education Overview
You will provide strategic academic leadership and operational management to the Department, line manage staff in the department, including workload allocation, appraisal, performance management, in order to deliver the strategic priorities as well as providing academic leadership over the subject area.

The purpose of this role is to lead the initial teacher education across primary age range and Early Years Initial Teacher Training. This includes leading the undergraduate and postgraduate portfolio across a wide range of subjects, leading the portfolio including all requirements for professional, statutory, and regulatory bodies, you will have current knowledge about the ITT Criteria and ITE OFSTED Inspection Framework.

Head of Primary Education Role and Responsibilities

  • Engage in teaching on undergraduate and/or postgraduate level programmes, lead on the design and development of new or existing programmes, and carry out the associated examining and administrative processes.
  • Lead a subject area or range of programmes and resolve problems affecting the quality of course delivery and student progress within own areas of responsibility. At this level this may include leading complex programmes, involving large cohort sizes.
  • Contribute to the wider student experience through personal tutoring, excellent classroom teaching and providing support in and outside the classroom.
  • Supervise student projects and placements as appropriate.
  • Maintain standing as a scholar and / or practitioner in your field that contributes to the profile and reputation of the Faculty.
  • Ensure that outcomes of scholarly activity and/or professional practice are appropriately disseminated in practitioner seminars, conferences or publications or peer reviewed outlets.
  • Identify opportunities for income generation and/or entrepreneurialism from scholarship, CPD, consultancy and/or professional practice.
  • Assist in student recruitment activities, including interviews, open days and external recruitment events.

Head of Primary Education Requirements

  • Commitment to fairness, inclusivity and the promotion of equality and diversity.
  • You will possess a good Honours Degree (UK, or IK equivalence) or equivalent experience, a Masters’ qualification or equivalent experience or be keen to work towards a postgraduate qualification.
    • Teaching experience, preferably in Higher Education or equivalent including curriculum development including innovation of teaching and learning methods and have Qualified Teacher Status. (QTS).
    • Experience of requirements for PSRB including OFSTED and OFSTED for ITE.
    • Preparation of external income generation bids and / or external income project delivery.
    • You must also possess excellent leadership skills to lead and manage a dynamic and lively team.
    • You should demonstrate that you are an excellent communicator and have an exemplary track record within teaching.
