Head of School, Human and Behavioural Sciences

Bangor University - Human and Behavioural Sciences

Located in one of the most beautiful regions of the UK, between the Snowdonia National Park and Anglesey, Bangor University has occupied a central role in the educational provision in North Wales since its foundation in 1884. With approximately 11,000 students and 2,000 staff, the university offers a wide range of academic provision grouped in three Colleges. We are a unique institution, the most Welsh in language and attitude, but also, arguably, the most international in outlook and ambition.

Based in the College of Human Sciences, the School of Human and Behavioural Sciences is the product of a merger between two of our most highly performing and exceptional schools: Psychology, and Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences. Our world-leading research spans cognitive neuroscience, applied health and wellbeing, elite performance and applied human physiology.  Furthermore, our research-informed teaching includes a wide portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and offers a clear ‘pathway’ model of education to enable students to progress from foundation year, to UG, PGT and professional qualification (MSc, PHD, DClinPsy etc). Our research has significant real-world impact, and our vision is to extend this both regionally and internationally. There are significant opportunities for our new Head to make a very positive contribution to the University as we roll out a new strategic vision. The post will be focused on growth, and in developing strength in depth in order to enhance the School’s academic offer and external profile.

Comfortable in an ambassadorial role you will be an assured, persuasive and confident communicator, someone who seeks innovative solutions, with imagination and creativity, inspiring trust and respect across the institution and with our partners. You will have an excellent track record of academic achievement in research and teaching and offer credibility in delivery at professorial level. Additionally, you will demonstrate evidence of effective leadership and change management, particularly in relation to growth and academic innovation.

This is an exciting opportunity to provide transformational leadership in a high performing and ambitious School, with a brief to realign and reposition our research and teaching portfolios through the development of a new strategy, aligned with Bangor’s newly developed Strategy 2030.

For more information on this outstanding opportunity and how you can take our School of Human and Behavioural Sciences to the next level of impact and influence, please visit www.veredus.co.uk quoting reference 1809.
