This is a rare opportunity to join a small but dedicated Library and Archives team, contributing fully to the running of the library on a day to day basis. This exciting new post offers a wide range of academic library tasks making it ideal for someone keen to take on responsibility, apply their own interests and develop their career.

Located centrally in Radcliffe Square, Brasenose combines the beautiful setting of an historic Oxford college with a forward thinking and innovative approach. Candidates must show expertise in Library Management systems and electronic resources. It will be necessary to keep abreast of developments in  web-based ALMA and of trends in all aspects of library work. In addition to routine library work, the role involves developing outreach initiatives and raising the profile of the library and promoting use among students and staff. The Assistant Librarian will take responsibility and care of the College’s historic rare and special collections and organize exhibitions in collaboration with the Antiquarian Cataloguer. They will recruit, train and supervise student helpers.

Candidates must be highly organized, with the ability to work to deadlines, with precise attention to detail. Clear and fluent communication skills in person and in writing are essential, as are strong administrative and IT skills, and the drive to develop an understanding of new systems. Candidates are required to have a good first degree and a postgraduate qualification in Librarianship, or extensive experience of working at a professional level in an academic library. Knowledge of RDA and MARC 21 rules is essential. They will demonstrate an interest in special collections (rare and antiquarian books) and in creating exhibitions and writing blogs based on such material. The library is located over several floors and buildings, and the role requires the climbing of many stairs. Some lifting is required as hoists are not available.
