We are seeking an enthusiastic technician to join our team in this central University research facility, presenting an excellent opportunity for a motivated technician to fulfil their potential working with laboratory rodents and zebrafish.  

Duties include:

  • To be a member of a team carrying out animal husbandry, care, and welfare duties in accordance with Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.
  • General upkeep of the facility and its high hygiene and welfare standards using specialist equipment.
  • To be responsible for activities associated with specific projects. This may involve direct liaison with academics, researchers, students, and commercial clients.
  • To be responsible for the upkeep of consumables, collections, and equipment and to carry out minor maintenance activities, housekeeping, waste management, stock control, and record keeping.

You will have:

  • Experience in caring for small animals.
  • An ability to work to well established routines and follow oral or written instructions.
  • Experience of working with relevant equipment.
  • Experience of working with care and precision.
  • An ability to work as part of team.

  • Able to actively participate in and work as part of a team.
  • Good communication and IT skills.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety policy and procedures affecting self and others.
  • Able to lift, move and position equipment and materials safely e.g., goods, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Able to carry out allocated, prescribed tasks to time and to the standard required.
