We're proud to offer state-of-the-art facilities, including digital and technical workshops, studios and gallery spaces designed to enhance learning and collaboration.

Manchester School of Theatre (MST) is dedicated to an industry-facing approach that embraces innovative, contemporary and international professional performance practice. BA (Hons) Drama and Contemporary Performance focuses on the practical and theoretical study of dramatic and postdramatic approaches to innovative theatre-making and performance. Working with leading contemporary theatre organisations and artists in the city and beyond, the programme introduces students to practices and critical contexts with the aim of preparing them for performance-related careers or further study. MA/MFA Performance offers a practical, versatile and interdisciplinary approach to performance-making and training, providing students with an advanced and practical understanding of current performance practices and drawing on a range of artistic and theoretical influences. The development of new creative performance practice is at the core of the MA/MFA programme, as well as how this works in a professional context. The MA/MFA programme offers bracketed specialisms in either Laboratory Theatre or Contemporary Performance.

About the Role:

The Senior Lecturer in Performance will contribute to the delivery and course management of both BA (Hons) Drama and Contemporary Performance and MA/MFA Performance programmes, as well as to research and future developments in Contemporary Performance specialisms in the Manchester School of Theatre, and more widely in the Department of Art and Performance, and the Manchester School of Art. The role will be engaged in practical teaching in contemporary theatre and performance across programmes. We are particularly interested in research and teaching work that engages with international artistic and academic partners, with innovative performance-making, and with diverse communities that are underrepresented in our existing provision.

About you:

We are looking for an experienced contemporary theatre/performance practitioner and higher education lecturer, able to operate as a teacher in both studio and seminar-based contexts and who can contribute to our growing PGR community. The ideal candidate will have an established and growing portfolio of research work which can demonstrate a level of quality that is internationally excellent in originality, significance and rigour. Areas of specialism may range across contemporary theatre directing and devising, physical performance/dance-based practice, contemporary performance and writing, somatic, body-based and vocal training, and/or scenography.

If you would like to apply, please take the time to consider the essential criteria in the job description and provide us with a CV that demonstrates your suitability for the role. You will also be asked to answer three questions linked to the job description. Please take the time to answer each question fully. Your responses should demonstrate how you meet each criteria using examples from your professional experience and/or study. (optional)
