The Henry Royce Institute (Royce), is an EPSRC-funded national institute. Extending across nine floors, the new £105m Royce Hub Building in Manchester will foster world-class collaborative research as diverse as biomedical materials, digital fabrication and advanced metals processing.

Royce is seeking an Experimental Officer to provide high-quality technical support to research activities related to the Advanced Metals Processing research area. You will be primarily responsible for experimental techniques associated with joining and cladding research, in particular metallic additive manufacturing. You will grow and oversee a user community of both internal and external academics, researchers and postgraduate students, as well as industrial customers. The role will involve providing training, advice and support to users on a wide range of scientific equipment and the interpretation of acquired data.

You will be an experienced experimentalist, with a demonstrable ability to acquire and interpret high quality data using advanced and highly specialised techniques. A proactive approach is important, as is an ability to establish a good rapport with students, staff, external customers and visitors. 

Postgraduate degree, or equivalent qualification, in a relevant science or engineering discipline and/or significant experience of working in either a manufacturing or research facility environment is required. Along with practical experience of various manufacturing processes such as welding, casting, forging, CNC machining, injection moulding.
