Periods and regions of specialization are entirely open. Candidates with expertise in digital methods for historical analysis and/or pedagogy will have a distinct advantage.
The appointee is expected to conduct research, publish scholarly outputs in international journals and/or with leading publishers, and apply for competitive grants administered by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong. He/she will teach courses in his/her area of specialty (typically two courses per year) and may advise undergraduate capstone projects. The appointee will also assume a key role in the creation of a new undergraduate degree program in history, with a focus on training students in digital history and methods of digital humanities at large.
General Requirements
The applicants should have a PhD degree in history or a relevant discipline by the time of appointment in August of 2022. Appointment at the associate level (i.e., Research Associate Professor) is possible, if the candidate ideally has five or more years of relevant experience. Relevant teaching experience and a good research record are essential. Experience in curricular design will be an advantage. The appointee should have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and services to the Department and the University community, and to engage actively in quality research and publication.

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of two or three years, starting from mid-August 2022. Renewal of contract may be considered, subject to availability of resources, performance review, and mutual agreement.
