This post is part time, 28 hours per week (other arrangements can also be considered) on a fixed term basis for 6 months.
The Active Travel Academy (ATA) at the University of Westminster is looking for a Research Associate with qualitative research experience to work on a research project on Cargo Bike Operators: Good Work founded by Impact on Urban Health, which will examine labour/employment practices in the cargo bike sector and how to improve them. The successful candidate will be responsible for the project’s qualitative data collection (interviews and focus groups) and analysis, as well as contribute to liaising with the project stakeholders and output delivery and dissemination (report and paper writing, presentations).
Candidates will need to have strong verbal and written communication skills, be well organised and able to work independently, and highly competent at collecting and analysing qualitative data (e.g. experience with NVivo or similar qualitative data analysis tools). As well as stakeholder liaison and data collection and analysis, the successful candidate will contribute to reporting and disseminating research findings and analysis (writing the project report and research paper and preparing presentations). We expect candidates to have a background in relevant research and/or policy work and a demonstrable interest specifically in active travel. Ideal candidates would also have a background and/or interest in work/employment/labour issues.
The Active Travel Academy is an interdisciplinary research, teaching, and outreach centre specialising in the study of walking, cycling, and other active and sustainable travel modes. Closely allied to the School of Architecture and Cities, it works across and beyond the University’s twelve Schools. The Academy is financially supported by the Quintin Hogg Trust and has won grant funding from organisations including the Road Safety Trust, Transport for London, the KR Foundation, and the Department for Transport.
